Lisa Flanigan smashed a 2 run walk off double in
Embroidery Unlimited’s final at bat to edge
Classic Events 4-3 in a very well played opening
game of the first round of the playoffs. Meghan
Ney and Andrea Boxell shared the pitching duties
and were both outstanding – retiring the Classic
Event hitters in order in 6 of the 7 innings.
Ney faced the minimum 12 batters in her 4 innings
of work – striking out 8 and not allowing a hit.
Boxell allowed only 2 hits in three innings of
work. Courtney Chisholm also keyed the
Embroidery offense with an infield single to lead
off the last inning rally. Chisholm came around
to third on a single to center by Ney who took
second on the throw. That set the stage for
Flanigan’s heroics as she ripped a 2 strike pitch
down the left field line to drive in the winning
runs. Molly
McGuire struck out nine batters over four innings
and Brooke Emond also pitched well. Classic
Events had exceptional defensive play from Kaya
White at third base and the remainder of the team
played solid defense in a close battle. Kayla
White, Meghan Butler and Julia Carney all had
hits to contribute for Classic Events scoring

Dr. Spada’s kept it close taking a 4-4 tie into
the 4th inning, but JR Trucking pulled away with
a 6 run inning and went on to win 11-4. Julie
O’Coin and Jen Fortin pitched well for Dr
Spada’s. O’Coin struck out 8 in her 3 innings of
work. O’Coin also had 3 hits. Sara Demarco
chipped in with a 2 run double in the 3rd
inning.

The All Weather Girls outlasted Al Brodeur's,
scoring the six run max in the seventh inning en
route to taking Game One of their three-game
semi-final playoff series. Heather Charbonneau
and Samantha Vaccaro each had big hits as part of
a three-run comeback in the top of the sixth to
tie the game and Jen Boxell pitched a scoreless
bottom of the inning to send the game into the
extra frame. Juia Seymour went 3-for-4 and
Jordan Rockland also scored three times for the
winners.

Classic Events tied up the series at one game
apiece with a great pitching effort from both
Brooke Emond and Molly McGuire. Meghan McMahon
was great behind the plate catching everything in
site to contain the Embroidery team. Erica
Roberts had a great steal of home plate and Kayla
White scord twice. Amber Winske was a defensive
standout at second base as well was Julia Carney
at shortstop. Molly McGuire, Corinne Kelley and
Julia Carney had hits. Aine Colpitts, Meghan
Butler and Caitlyn Edwards patrolled the outfield
for Classic Events. Courtney Chisholm led the
Embroidery offense with 2 hits and scored the
teams lone run. Sonya Peterson also chipped in
with two hits and a fine catch in centerfield.
Caroline Ragno had the only other hit for
Embroidery. Meghan Ney was once again
outstanding on the mound – shutting the Classic
offense down for the three innings she pitched
and running her scoreless innings streak to 7
straight in the playoffs.

Embroidery finished a very good season but was
unable to solve the Classic Event’s pitching all
series as they were held to only 9 total runs in
the three games. Embroidery got great
performances from their own two pitchers – Meghan
Ney and Andrea Boxell – who combined to strike
out 10 Classic hitters. The Embroidery offense
exploded in the first inning - led by Sarah
Buckley who staked her team to a first inning 3-0
lead by blasting a bases clearing 3 run double to
center - scoring Loghen Baker, Sonya Peterson,
and Jess Acosta who had each stroked consecutive
hits to lead off the game. The Embroidery bats
were silenced over the next 6 innings however –
managing only 5 base runners and 1 run – scored
by Acosta with some excellent base running - the
rest of the game. Boxell, Nye, Buckley,
Peterson, Courtney Chisholm, and Samantha Geagan
all played their final game for Marlboro Youth
softball – each capping fine careers for the
Embroidery team and serving as great leaders for
their younger teammates. Loghen Baker, Amanda
Cote, Lisa Flanigan, Amber Clement and Caroline
Ragno will all return next year – forming a
strong nucleus for future Embroidery teams.

Pitcher Julia Seymour went to 10-0 on the season
and helped her own cause by starting two critical
inning-ending double plays to stall Al Brodeur
rallies. A six-run fifth inning broke open a
one-run game at the time and propeled The All
Weather Girls into the Minor League finals for
the first time in five years.

After swandering an early 13-3 lead, Paige
Shepard's two-run single sparked a six-run sixth
inning rally as The All Weather Girls came from
behind to take the first game of the championship
series. Facing a bases loaded jam in the bottom
of the inning, Samantha Vaccaro came on in relief
to record the game's final two outs, the last
being a Julia Seymour-to-Heather Charbonneau
force out at home plate to end the game
